Life with Lily Book One

My review:
I loved this sweet little book.  Geared towards the youth fiction genre, it is a wonderful story about a sweet little Amish girl, Lily Lapp.  Living with her parents and growing up on her family's little farm Singing Tree Farm, we follow her young days as she turns six and then seven.  She begins school and enjoys it greatly, but her beloved teacher is in an accident, and school changes with the new school teacher.  The book begins with the birth of her baby brother Daniel, who they call Dannie.
What I liked about this story:  OHH it was just a sweet story, in fact in ways I found it reminiscent of the Little House on the Prairie books, told from the view point of a little girl, as she grows up.  I loved the story when Grandma Miller picked white lilacs and showed Lily how adding food coloring to the water changed the flowers and explained how important the choice of friends is.
What I did not like about this book: Mandy Mast, I am with Lily on this one, I wanted to slap that child, in fact most of the book I called her Mandy Nasty because she was so mean and ornery.
Conclusion, this book is a wonderful story and definitely one that children can enjoy.  As I said it made me think of the Little House books, and I cannot wait to read more about little Lily Lapp! 276 pages US $12.99
