Imagine, your a hero. A Medal of Honor decorated hero! However you don't tell people, and just live your life to the best of your ability. That is the story of Aaron Miller, and if that was all there was to his story you would wonder why he won a Medal of Honor. But that is not all to the story, Aaron is a hero, who risked his life and was injured saving the lives of three other soldiers during the Vietnam War. However, returning home, he faced the hostility of the people at home, and then became addicted to pain meds during his recovery. And it all went downhill from there, he lost job after job, his wife finally told him to leave and never come back, and he lost his kids. He lived on the streets until one Thanksgiving Day, a turkey dinner at a mission turned into a life changing event for him. That was the day that he heard the gospel, that he heard and it registered to him, exactly what Christ did for him. It changed his life, and now he works hard living in the storeroom at the trailer park he works at in Florida.
The three buddies, whose lives he saved have been looking for him for years, they meet each year for a reunion, and want him to come. They have done well for themselves and have decided to pay Dave Russo, a reporter who is writing a book about the heroes of the Vietnam War, to find Aaron. Will Aaron be able to find the man, whose children think he is a deadbeat dad, and who will the decorated hero, the simple handyman, and the deadbeat dad turn out to be? Which one of those descriptions will fit the man Aaron Miller is now?
This story will tug at your heart strings. You will be amazed to learn that Aaron is a hero, he is so private and very laid back in his day to day life, but always helping others. He has the heart of a helper, and seems to always see the little needs of people around him. I love Dan's books and he always throws a bit of romance in there, which he writes very well. 304 pages $US 14.99 5 stars.
