Shelley Ring
2011
Contemporary Fiction

Shelley Ring has given us a contemporary parallel to the age old story of Ruth and Naomi from the Bible.  The parallel of an elderly woman whose huband and sons have died, and the daughter-in-law determined to stay with the mother-in-law.
Lara and Naomi have come to Colorado to live with Benny Blake, Naomi's nephew after the death of Lara's husband David.  Naomi is mad at God, he has taken her sons, her husband and now she wants to die, but she has to make sure Lara is taken care of first.
I loved the interactions between Lara and Naomi, they seemed to hate each other at times, but were both afraid of showing their true love.  Lara sometimes made me want to scream at her just like Naomi did, she just was stubborn and mule headed, but it made the story!  This is a great book, you will appreciate and enjoy.  Have I read better writing, sure. However this author told this story in a way no one else could have, her writing style kept me interested in the book.  I cried at the end.  Great story!  4 stars 253 pages $2.99 US Kindle price.

  1. I enjoyed your review and look forward to future reveiws. I'm thinking I might give this book a try. I typically don't read books that I wouldn't give a 5 stars to because there are so many great ones out there. I also don't always agree with the star number provided by another reviewer. Even though you rated this 4 stars I'm intrigued by the story line. Thank you for sharing. Blessings & Merry Christmas, Susan Fryman
