Every year I wait in anticipation for Melody's Christmas book, and this year was no different, it was only because I was desperately busy when it arrived that I waited as long as I did this year to read it. Being a widow, living with your mother and your eight year old daughter is not easy in the late 1930s. You become very resourceful at scraping by. Taking in boarders helps the Turnbull family, and when young Lucy is in town, as strangers find themself stranded after car trouble, she brings them home to her mother's boarding house. Life will never be the same for Lucy, attracted to the young woman, Veronica she thinks she is the most beautiful woman she has ever seen, and George the young man is a nice man. George always finds ways to help around the boarding house, but as the time passes, Lucy realizes that beauty is more than being pretty on the outside, it comes from within. A wonderful story about a little girl learning that there is more to life than good looks, and that wishes can come true. LOVED this book!! 5 stars 169 pages US $15.99
