Spring for Susannah

Cindy's Review
Wow, this was a debut book! I am always amazed at how good some debut books are and this was one that amazed me!  Catherine Richmond took a plot that was very detailed and twisted, and unraveled it to reveal a heartwarming story.  Can you imagine marrying a man you have never met, and only conversed a few times via letters in the mail?  Already old enough to be considered a spinster in her day and age, Susannah was nearly damaged goods also.  An attack by a man who claimed to be a banker, let her with horrible memories.  Growing up as an only child to parents who were very critical and very astute about everything appearing proper, leaves her with the worry about how to make sure her new husband was always happy with her actions.  Facing his own demons from the war Jesse, had prayed all his life for the woman who was to be his wife, now faced with a wife who is emotionally scarred, Jesse is not sure how to handle her, his only option is to win her love.  Which he begins to do, and then a tragedy strikes their little family, and causes setbacks, Will love prevail in this story?  How will Jesse provide for his family after another grasshopper infestation comes and wipes out their crops.  You must read this book!! A fascinating story that kept me up all night reading!  I truly enjoyed the book and give it 4 stars!! Great job Catherine! CBR

  1. Carol, Thank you so much for your great review of Spring for Susannah! No, I can't imagine marrying a man after only exchanging a few letters - I dated my husband for four years! Researching the Good Old Days sure makes me thankful for today! Blessings!
