An Amish woman in jail?? Unheard of, but that is exactly where Abigail Graber has found herself. What a mess, just doing what she loves to do, bringing babies into this world, as an Amish midwife, she is not licensed. Which means she is not supposed to deliver babies by herself, but an emergency call where a young Amish woman is hemorrhaging leads to Abagail being arrested and put in jail. She will be going on trial for involuntary manslaughter, for practicing medicine without a license and several other charges. How does an Amish woman find herself in this position?
Catherine, Abigail's sister has come to the Graber farm to help our her sister and brother in law by taking care of the children and the house, and cooking. What Catherine hasn't expected however is the young man who lives on the Graber farm. Isaiah, thought to be simple minded by the community, Catherine quickly discovers that he is deaf, not simple minded. She also discovers that she is very attracted to Isaiah.
This book was a delight to read, I zipped through it in a few hours, flipped back through and re-read parts of it, that I had enjoyed so much!! A story you would never expect to hear centered around an Amish family, which makes it even more enjoyable. I really enjoyed Mary Ellis' book, and cannot wait to read more of this series! 283 pages Discussion questions included. $US 13.99 4 stars.
