Beautiful Ellen Pierce is being held captive, by a promise made to her mother on her deathbed, and captive by a brother controlled by mental illness. Forced to stay with him, and to move if anyone shows any interest in her, Ellen and Jonah are once again on the move. Headed to Alaska, where Jonah is convinced he will find his fortune in the gold rush.
However a frozen steamship seems to be threatening Jonah's dreams, until Buck Lewis a good looking man on the steamship offers to lead anyone willing to brave the elements to Dawson City on foot. Jonah tells Ellen she is going, that she cannot leave him and stay on the boat. Jonah does not make it to Dawson City, Ellen does, however she feels great guilt at Jonah's death. But she also realizes she has fallen in love with Buck, and wishes for a life with a husband, and family of her own.
Buck, however is chasing his own demons and facing his own harsh realities. He is determined to find the man who shot his wife seven months earlier, and to make sure that justice is served. Will he deny the attraction and pass up a chance for love, in order to extract revenge.
Jamie Carie has brought another great story in this novella. A beautiful story of how God can use many things to catch our attention, and also a story of redemption. You will not want to put this book down, until you finish it. 256 pages $14.99 US 5 stars.
